Education:
Dr. Shelin graduated from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia, in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry awarded with distinction. In 1987, he received his Medical Degree from Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans, Louisiana, while earning his Master of Public Health from the Tulane University, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. From 1988 to 1989 he attended Bethesda Naval Hospital, Bethesda, Maryland, where he completed a transitional internship. In 1989 he was designated as Naval Flight Surgeon after attending the U.S. Naval Flight Surgeon School at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute at NAS Pensacola, Florida. In, 1997, Dr. Shelin completed a four-year residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Experience:
Dr. Shelin served as Naval Flight Surgeon and Primary Care Medical Officer from 1989 to 1993. He also worked with the Navy as a Naval Reserve Flight Surgeon. As a Naval Reserve he participated in drills with VR-55 at Point Mugu, California, and participated overseas in Operation Iraqi Freedom. In August of 2008 Dr. Shelin retired from the Navy after 20 years of service.
Previously Dr. Shelin was employed by Diagnostic Imaging of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas, Nevada from 1997 to 2001, where he was the Administrative Director of the Surgery Center. Dr. Shelin joined Desert Radiologists in October 2001.
